The river dolphin is one of the oldest creatures on earth.🐬 Unfortunately, river dolphins are also among the most endangered mammals on the planet. They are losing more and more of their natural habitat. River dolphins act as indicators of a river's health and are therefore crucial for our eco system. . That is why the WWF is working together with fishing authorities, local organizations and local people to fight illegal fishing methods. . . . #riverdolphin #conservation #WWF #fishing #dolphin #river #healthyriver #ecosystem #wildlife #nature #EndangeredSpecies #biodiversity #wildlifephotography #ProtectWildlife #NaturePhotography #endangered #endangeredspecies #IconicSpecies #ProtectNature

#DYK that there are penguins living in Africa? The southern African waters and beaches are home to the so called jackass penguin. The name jackass was given to the African penguin because of its loud,Β donkey-like bray. Once very numerous, the population of the African penguin is now declining rapidly and the species is classified as endangered. Overfishing, pollution, the spill of oil and habitat loss are just some of the issues that these charismatic animals have to face. To help the jackass penguin as well as many other of our world's wildlife to survive, we work to protect the natural habitat on earth, so that also future generations can share the world with amazing wildlife. . . . #WeShareTheWorld #wildlife #WildlifePhotography #endangered #EndangeredSpecies #penguin #JackassPenguin #AfricanPenguin #habitat #conservation #WWF #SouthernAfrica #ProtectWildlife

The polar region is changing dramatically - nowhere else is climate change so clearly noticeable as here. Still, yesterday the National Council decided not to set any targets for reducing Switzerland's CO2 emissions and to commit to significantly less climate protection than before. This decision comes in a time, where the consequences of unchecked climate change are more apparent than ever before. . Now, it is more important than ever to fight against climate change! . . #climatechange #actnow #ausLiebezurSchweiz #JAzuKlimaschutz #wwf #klimaallianzschweiz

Behold the King of the Skies! πŸ¦… This weeks animal for our Sunday Wildlife of Switzerland series is the majestic Golden Eagle (Steinadler). The Golden Eagle is the only large predator in Switzerland to have survived the days of ruthless persecution during which the Bearded Vulture, the Lynx, the Wolf and the Brown Bear were exterminated. Nowadays, the population of the Golden Eagle has recovered and can mostly be seen in the Alps. . "Und tΓ€glich grΓΌsst das Murmeltier". Happy Sunday! Today's animal in our Instagram Sunday series "Wildlife of Switzerland" is the marmot. It is a symbol of the Alps and can be found on many Swiss postcards. In summer the whistling of the marmot accompanies the alpine hiker. But now the cute rodents sleep in their underground buildings. The hibernation of the marmots lasts approximately from October to March. Before hibernation, the alpine marmots carry dry plant parts into their nests to isolate them. The entrance to the building is closed from the inside with a plug of grass, faeces, earth and stones. The marmots sleep in their cozy nests until spring. We are a little jealous right now, aren't we? Who doesn't want to spend half a year snuggled up and sleeping through the cold season? And on top of that, who doesn't want to eat as much as possible in summer to get a nice layer of fat? Of course we are just kidding, because the hibernation can also be dangerous for the marmots. If a marmot does not find enough energy-rich food during the summer, it may not survive the winter. But for now: good night to the marmots and we are looking forward to hear their whistling again next spring. . . . #WildlifeOfSwitzerland #Sunday #marmot #cute #Alps #SwissAlps #hiking #hibernation #nest #sleep #Switzerland #wildlife #nature #home #WWF
